Co-Ed Adults, Ages 13+

Gracie Combatives

Gracie Combatives is our beginner program for adults, teaching the 36 core techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across a fixed sequence of lessons. These aren't an arbitrary starting set — they were identified through analysis of real fights as the most reliable techniques out of the hundreds that exist in jiu-jitsu, the same techniques the art was built to prove decades ago. Every class is cooperative, with no live sparring required, so complete beginners learn at a safe, steady pace.

What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and self-defense system built around controlling an opponent through leverage, technique, and position — not size or strength.

How it works

Instead of relying on strikes, BJJ uses grappling: takedowns, controlling positions, and submissions like joint locks and chokes. These let a smaller, weaker person safely control or neutralize a larger, stronger opponent.

Why it works

Technique beats strength. By using leverage and body mechanics correctly, a properly applied technique can overcome nearly any size or strength advantage — this is the core principle Jiu-Jitsu was built on nearly a century ago.

That’s what makes it one of the most effective forms of realistic self-defense, and also one of the fastest-growing sports and fitness activities in the world.

No experience is required to start. Every class begins with the fundamentals in a safe, cooperative environment, long before any live sparring is introduced.
